The Tantalizing Fly (1918)

Taken from Out of the Inkwell, a series of animated shorts produced by Max Fleischer, ‘The Tantalizing Fly’ is a meta-animation in which Fleischer the artist and his cartoon clown creation, Koko, are pitted against a persistent fly. One of the earliest integrations of animation and live-action, the video was made using rotoscoping, a technique of Fleischer’s own invention. Koko later became a supporting character in the Betty Boop cartoons.
